Three very important concepts to understand in the reproduction of life sized music.
Transient Resolution:
Transient Resolution is the ability of a driver to very accurately track the extremely fast, complex and dynamic signals that make up music. This must be done without blur, transient overshoot or ringing. To do this a driver must track the amplified signal exactly, without imparting a character of its own.
Dynamic realism:
Dynamic realism refers to a system's ability to reproduce music with slam, in other words with the impact and dynamic presence of a live performance. Many good systems are tonally accurate but they sadly lack the ability to scale up the dynamics of the performance. This is especially true for the hard to reach lower registers.The listener should believe he's actually listening to life sized musicians giving a life sized performance. Without dynamic realism, the impression is that the music is far away and not well defined, regardless of the loudness level. Without dynamic realism you may never get the feeling that you're listening to a real performance, and you'll miss being magically transported to the performance hall.
The science of silence:
Silence is golden they say. Noise can be very distracting, especially when listening to music, but we seldom notice the unwanted injection of noise from the speaker system. The noise is quite literally the result of drivers failing to accurately track the fast complex and dynamic content of music. The better a speaker’s transient resolution, the lower its noise floor will be.
